It's cartoon logic, so on an entertainment/mildly educational level, it does its job.

I do like the development of the villains in the new series. I had nightmares about Paper Star.

I thought female representation was great, but that's a given as it's Netflix's rule.

out of carmen's five classmates that we meet (original classmates, so not counting paper star), only one is a girl. so of course, she is carmen's rival, because that's not a misogynistic trope at all. and of course, she's a mean girl, because that's not a misogynistic trope at all.

it was a serious case of Not Like Other Girls syndrome, hence why i said i stan tigress out of spite. if they hadn't set her up that way, i'd be like, eh, she's cool i guess but the gays and paper star are better. but knowing that she's the butt of the sexist, reductive trope? i'm going to aggressively love her just to stick it to the writers.

I get what you mean. The trope part seemed instantly shallow. Just like the 'born sexy yesterday' thing I was thinking about.
