The U.S. does have this system where the privileged are out of touch with the rest of the population, but that's hardly unique in terms of governance.

There was a recent article that fleshed out the american infrastructure for me perfectly: People my age, and even people younger, going all the way back to the Nixon administration, ahve never seen a form of american government that was truly democratic.

In a political system that encourages more power to the people, representatives in government are reminded regularly that they must serve the population.
