You have two groups of people who, aside from minor differences, are essentially the same. What drives them apart is cultural identity and religion.

It's hard to say from which point they're willing to interact as people and where the 'us vs them' line starts to form.

That said, any type of interaction, be it commerce or education, has the potential for paradigm shift. I think that has more weigh in terms of breaking tension than minor fights.
