On a vaguely related note, I'm loving the new space race.

I like it too, but I'm still viewing it with the usual skepticism.

How long do you think it would take before one of us returns from a trip to Mars?

At the moment, I'm going to say we'll see manned orbit missions around 2030 or so, with landings following soon after.

I'd want to say Mars isn't in my lifetime, but then again, might happen faster than I'm willing to deal with it.

I saw a rather exciting concept for manned exploration of Venus. It made a rather compelling case.

Venus sounds interesting.

I'd love to see it explored further, but it seems to only be at the conceptual phase right now.

I'm trying to find the talk where one of the project leads was making his case, but no luck so far.

 

[Eugene]

His case boiled down to the fact that Venus gravity is (I think) 0.9G, and there are points in the Venusian atmosphere that would nominally be at standard temperature and pressure.

While I'm watching this, I have something else that's interesting... A guy lived 10 years of his life in his own head during a near-death experience. Sounds like something relevant to Ultramarine: After Living 10 Years Of A Happy Life Man Wakes Up And Realizes He Was Unconscious And Dreamt It All
