Jason stepped off the boat and made his way to where Kristine had found a scrap of fabric. He began to examine it and though he thought this probably wasn't from the missing sailor, he kept his thoughts to himself.

"Lucy, (@Detective_Discovery ) you like to heights and climbing. right? Why don't you climb up one of those trees and see if you can spot a campsite or anything from up there?"

Lucy nodded at West's question as she stepped out of the boat. She walked around the tallest trees and inspected the low branches. Once satisfied one would hold, she carefully stepped onto it and grabbed for the next branch to test it. Over and over she repeated this until near the top.

She scanned the horizon for a few minutes then paused when something caught her eye. It looked like smoke from a campfire and it didn't seem like it was too far away. It seemed promising she thought, as she slowly climbed down the tree to rejoin the others.

"There is smoke due North not too far from here."

Julie didn't think of herself as being anymore uncoordinated or clumsy than the average person...but she still couldn't imagine climbing a tree without giving it a second thought like that, like Detective Discovery had just done. It seemed like a very bold move for the very shy Junior Detective, and it made Julie a little nervous watching the young girl climb to the top.

Julie was very glad when Lucy had climbed down the tree again, and was safely back on the ground...she was glad that Lucy was starting to open up and feel like part of the team...and that Lucy had found such a important clue.

Clearly this young girl would be a great agent someday....

"That's great, @Detective_Discovery. Good job," said Julie. :)

"So where do we go from here?" Asked Kristine. "Where there is smoke there might be a fire."

Watching Discovery,West, and Julie, Kristine was rather inspired, and hoped to be as good as them some day. Though there was sill so much for her to learn, at this time.

"So where do we go from here?" Asked Kristine. "Where there is smoke there might be a fire."
"I think that's probably the best idea. We'll probably find a campsite somewhere near the fire." Jason replied as he put his backpack on and picked up the case he had brought from his office.

"Would you like to lead the way @Lucy?" Jason asked as he turned to the young junior detective.

Lucy’s face turned red with embarrassment as she shook her head shyly.

"I'd feel better if you took the lead."

The young girl still wasn't sure if she was ready to be that bold. Lucy still had a lot to learn and figured she might pick up a few things from him if he led the team.

"I'd feel better if you took the lead."
"Okay." Jason replied as he pulled out a GPS system and powered it on.

"I need someone to just hang onto this while we're making our way out there. Can any of you do that for me? I'm going to need a few minutes before we head out on the trek."

Jason set the GPS device down on top of his bag and began to open the case that he had brought with them. He would rather be safe than sorry when it came to these kinds of personal missions. He quickly opened the case and began to quickly put together his GAP-10. Once the gun was assembled, he put a quick attach suppressor and quick acquisition scope onto the rifle. He then threw the sling over his body and retrieved a few magazines that were already loaded from the case before closing it.

After seating a magazine into the rifle and putting the rest of the magazines on top of his bag, he put the case back into the RHIB and retrieved his plate carrier with MOLLE attached pouches on it. He quickly leaned the rifle against the boat and put his plate carrier on.

The heavily tattooed blond put the spare magazines into the pouches before putting the rifle sling back on followed by his backpack.

"Everyone ready to go?" Jason asked.

Julie looked at @Lucy, and she could see the young girl's shyness had seemed to return. Not wanting her to lose her confidence again, Julie spoke up, and said,"Yes, Jason, we're right behind you. Come on, @Detective_Discovery, you can walk with me. You, too, @Invader. We're all on this adventure together, after all. ;) And remember, just try to stay alert and observant. Anything that we see or hear could be important, no matter how insignificant it seems..." :)

Invader picked up the GPS, unit and carried it with great care. She let the others lead the way, while keeping them in sight. This was turning out to be quite the adventure, and she kept her ears open as well for any odd sounds. Watching the three of them inspired her, and she admired them greatly.

Lucy keeps close to Julie Justice, her heart still beating rapidly from climbing the tree. The lump in her throat had disappeared and she felt better. Sanchez wore a small smile as she shyly looked at her feet, but then she stopped in her tracks and looked around. The teenager listened carefully, not sure if she'd heard something but sure enough, the sound came again. What the heck was that?

((So... this is the place.. 512 1/2 W Saint Germain St #1, St. Cloud, MN 56301 2 Bedroom Apartment for $650/month - Zumper. You have to go through both bedrooms to get to the bathroom. Moving stuff in is gonna be a struggle (wall outside main door is like a 60-degree angle)... big desk (mine), big entertainment center (the folks), "things" are gonna be weird (no privacy). The folks want it (gas stove in an apartment, claw-foot bathtub)... not all of our stuff comes apart nicely))

((IRL: @Lucy2... You may have to just start a new account (if the system lets you)... we don't know who all has admin access, so 'password recover emails' might not get seen or dealt with. If you do, I'd suggest a new account, and a series of posts linking to the old account. Keep in mind, we're in Minnesota, so cold is a thing... if you wanna trade, we're open to place tickets! We can't really do anything until we hear from the appeal guy... anytime between the 19th and December 5th, so in theory move-out could be end of December (unless it gets here before the end of this month) or maybe they can stay... no idea. So, the other place door... that's what we'd have to fit everything through.))

((So... the latest is that the woman who reported the folks to the police, called the guy who handled the appeal (after we left the room) and told him that if he doesn't make sure to get the folks out of the building, she'd make things difficult for him. The property manager told ma a few days ago, and ma told me today. So, anyone know what that would be called? Coercing, bribery, influence peddling? Would that invalidate the eviction? This is Section 8 housing, so low-income housing. The appeal decision should in theory get here next week or maybe Friday, and they can appeal again, maybe this one would be in real court... don't know. I will advise the folks contact legal aid and see what they say.))

((Correction: the parents are caving, they are planning for the move ON January 1st, without waiting to hear what the appeal decision is, and not willing to fight it. I stormed out of their place tonight (punched the call button for the elevator... they may have heard it), because I know they could win the second appeal hands down (they don't want "more of the stress from all this", they would discuss shit when I went to the bathroom tonight). I reminded them they may not get the entertainment center through the door to the apartment, we probably will have to take the claw legs off the table for the first time ever, but they have their heart set on it. ))

They're set on a two bedroom apartment ($154 more than the current, at least), it's up to me if I want to move, they said. Once we leave this place (section 8/low-income housing, the waiting list is over 2 years), that's it... the building manager retires later 2025... she pulled a string to get me in here))

Did you know.....The original candy canes were straight sugar sticks that were often used to decorate Christmas trees. The first historical reference to the cane shape was in 1670, when the choirmaster at Cologne Cathedral in Germany bent the sugar sticks into the shape of a shepherd's staff. Candy canes remained white until the early 20th century when red stripes and peppermint flavor became popular.
