Leonardo: Painted the Mona Lisa
Michelangelo: Painted the Sistine Chapel, sculpted the David, sculpted the Dying Slave and the Bound Slave, sculpted the Pietà

I think there's a clear winner here.

If we are talking about art, the better ninja turtle, or who has the more fabulous name, then Michelangelo. If we are talking about who has made the greater impact on history through their contributions to multiple disciplines, then Leonardo. Both were masters ahead of their time.

Wait a minute Jacqueline! Leonardo not only painted the Mona Lisa he knows science (mostly anatomy),engineering and architecture.
And Michelangelo not only painted the Sistine and sculpted the statue of David he knows poetry and yes he knows architecture as well.

What can I say? It's going to be one pasta fight tonight for these two artists of the Renaissance ages.

So... while we're looking over which of the two is 'more', let's not forget that history has already chosen the victor.

In 1504, the Florentine government formally set up a competition. Both masters were to paint great battles at the Palazzo Vecchio. On one side, Michaelangelo's Battle of Cascina, on the other, Leonardo's Battle of Anghiari. Both paintings were removed or painted over since (a shame, really, imagine what a sight it must have been to have both frescoes in one room).

Two years later, by 1506, the competition ended and the 'ultimate genius' was confidently chosen by the city of Florence.

The victor's prize was to decorate Rome itself. To stand before God and craft the very essence of the Vatican, shaping the future of art.

The loser resentfully left Italy, crossing the Alps. He took his most famous painting with him, where it now rests in La Louvre.

I've also found that the two thieves were leaving for Algeria, thanks of a trace of DNA evidence recovered from a helmet and their past in burglary cases according to the police.
