I was with ICOMOS doing a survey of a (then) potential UNESCO site near Matera, Italy. It was a long trip by car for the rest of the team, but I needed to save time, so I arrived by helicopter and took a shorter walk to the location. One of the lead surveyors was an older Italian woman with peppered hair and well tanned skin. After we had our brief introductions, I told them that I'd like to do a quick survey and then I needed to go.
She asked me how much time I had, and I said 30 minutes. There was a chuckle to my haste, and she told me "Take more time."
I ended up taking the rest of the day, and the helicopter couldn't wait, so I hiked with the rest of the team and took a car back to Bari. At the end of the trip, she gave me a replica coin in brass -- an owl on a pedestal with the words 'Sapientia Principis" (Prince of Wisdom). Turns out she gives this to all her first-year trainees, I was honored either way.
