[Patty]

Some random Airbnb on Mykanos...

It was dawning. Patty looked through her suitcase for something nice to wear. She wanted to beat the instagrammers to the beach this morning, but seeing the amount of camera-wielding youtubers outside, she must be already late.

Oh my god, who goes to the beach at, like, 6 a.m.?

She put on a nice yellow skirt and grabbed a woven hat then headed to the common area in the Airbnb she shared with a few fellow VILE agents. Breakfast was toast and some eggs, then whatever fruit they'd bought last night at a nearby market. Half of it didn't look so fresh, probably squished in the canvas bag Eartha was carrying.

~At the same Airbnb on Mykanos~

Emma stretched and sighed, the first rays of sun filtering in through the curtains. She was sorely tempted to roll over and go right back to sleep, but Patty probably wouldn't appreciate that. Her new friend and coworker had mentioned something about hitting the beach early today and, from the sounds and smells coming from the kitchen, Patty was already up and at 'em.

God, she hates jet lag. This was the farthest she'd ever traveled through time zones and she was decidedly not a fan.

About to fall into temptation and doze off again, her phone chimed. Emma paused at the sound and grabbed her phone. Squinting at the bright screen, she unlocked her phone.; an email from a client had come through. She sat up, tapped out a quick response, and then set the phone aside.

She was still tired, but she was too alert now to fall back asleep. Besides, Patty had gone through all the trouble of arranging this little get-together; it would be rude to spend it all sleeping. Yawning, Emma got out of bed and threw her hair in a messy ponytail. She pulled on a blue sundress and headed out to the common room to see who else might be up.

 

[Eartha]

Eartha fell asleep on the balcony last night. She woke early to the morning waves and the call of Mediterranean seagulls. It wasn't seagulls, it was just some girl honking out over her GoPro about this totally awesome Greek vacation.

There was a line at the view point, Eartha could see from where she was at the balcony, of people taking selfies so it would look like no one was around.

Then she heard the ding of toasts and eggs. Patty's going to be disappointed.

"There's already a line," Eartha rubbed her eyes and walked in through the Greek French doors to report what she saw, "Can we just chill and wait until something explodes and the tourists run away?"

"Oh hi, Emma," she greeted one of VILE's newest member, "How did you sleep?"

 

[Contessa]

Not an early riser, the Contessa was only waking because the smell of toast and fried eggs were promises of breakfast. And she wasn’t going to get any in-room dining in this shack. She should have opted for a hotel, but this was a quick stop with her favourite people.

She checked her phone and discovered her assistant Armando, expecting her to wake in the afternoon, was at least 30 minutes away on errands.

With her morning news flashing across the iPhone, Adrianna Covrenzi scrolled to catch up on herself. Last week’s charity auction caused quite a buzz when a Sultan bought a customised Lamborghini for a whopping €200k more than its original value. Bloomberg featured a full article on it with a side note about the hostess of the event and Covrenzi's net worth.

When she saw the number, Adrianna screamed.

 

[Patty]

Patty was definitely disappointed to hear the view point was already crowded, but she agreed with Eartha. They should just chill for now.

When she saw Emma, Patty smiled and waved, "You want avocado with your toast?"

She brought out some paprika, and just as she was setting the table, she heard a scream that was maybe about 0.4 of an octave below blood curdling.

"Sounds like Contessa's awake," Patts commented and shrugged with her eyes, "Maybe she missed her botox appointment."

"Like a log," Emma replied, giving a sleepy smile to the green-haired woman. "I can't believe you spent the night out on the balcony. Doesn't seem like the most comfortable place."

She walked around to the kitchen to see if Patty needed any help getting breakfast together. At Patty's question, she replied, "Sure, I'd love some. Just let me grab some juice."

Reaching into the refrigerator, she pulled out a container of fresh grapefruit juice. She was about to ask if anyone else wanted some when a loud, high scream rang through the house, seemingly coming from Adrianna's room.

"Does she...do that often?" she asked glancing at the others.

 

[Eartha]

Eartha didn't even react to the scream.

"Do what often?" She asked Emma. The bodybuilder was developing selective hearing loss when it came to the Contessa, "The balcony is really nice and cool at night, Emma, you should try it."

Looking to Patty's little breakfast station she grabbed a piece of toast and ate it first.

"You're the best, Patts," she commented, "You make toast like a toaster did it."

 

[Contessa]

"This is a catastrophe!" Entering the common area in her white satin robe, Adrianna's hair was enclosed in a neatly folded towel over her head. She had on full make-up.

"Such lies!" She exclaimed, pointing to the article on her phone, "700 million Euros? I'm worth twice that!"

A Greek newspaper rested on the table with references to her party and a similar figure for her net worth. Again, she screamed and threw the paper onto the sofa.

"The Haute Couture fashion week is next month, I can't attend with people thinking I'm worth less than a billion!"

She turned to Patty, "Quickly, who do you know that can inflate numbers, we need to reevaluate my entire art collection."

 

[Patty]

"Does she...do that often?" she asked glancing at the others.

Patty gave a thin smile and a nod, "Yep."

"You're the best, Patts," she commented, "You make toast like a toaster did it."

"Surprise! It did come from a toaster, Earth," Patty sarcastically pointed to the appliance.

Then Adrianna made her grand dramatic entry seemingly disheveled but actually put-together. This was her sort of style. Patty was also willing to bet that under that towel, her hair was already permed and ready to go.

She turned to Patty, "Quickly, who do you know that can inflate numbers, we need to reevaluate my entire art collection."

The younger blonde glanced at her friend @Emma Bezzle, "Well, Emma's good with money...," but another idea popped into her head, "Why would we have to go through your entire art collection, when you could just borrow a few iconic pieces and bump your net worth up four or five hundred million euros?"

Emma nodded. "Patty's right," she said. "My expertise is in liberating other people's funds, not increasing them." She took a bite of toast, taking a moment to think through the logistics of what Patty was suggesting. It seemed like their relaxing getaway was going to be much more exciting than first anticipated. Emma smiled to herself; what else had she been expecting from joining up with VILE?

"Okay," she said, "if we're going to be umm...borrowing some art pieces, we should probably relocate to somewhere a little more populated, right? We aren't exactly an inconspicuous group," she said looking at the others in turn, "and the more people around, the less likely it would be for us to be noticed.

"Then again, I've never done something quite like this before," she added with a small laugh. "You three should probably take point on this while I take notes."

 

[Eartha]

Eartha heard everything, but she was listening to nothing. She was still surprised when Patty pointed out the toaster. She hadn't seen it before, and she couldn't understand why. It was red with metal rim and a brand starting with an S. It looked Italian or Swiss, but old enough to be in some kind of old things museum.

"That toaster is like a corvette that makes amazing toast," she said just as Emma stopped talking.
