@Morgan interesting, i was actually taught not to use the word dialect, period. but my background is more in applied linguistics, which is technically a separate field from regular vanilla linguistics.

Interesting as well, I was taught to use 'dialect', 'variety' and 'accents' to reference different levels of language shifts.
