i would argue - and this is TOTALLY just me being both a carmen stan and a tomb raider stan - but i would argue that tomb raider reflects a lot of elements of carmen. obviously it's not educational (well, not intentionally so, but i stand by my statement that i learned more from tomb raider: legend than the netflix show), was developed for adults, and is violent, and i very much doubt that any of the creators were emulating carmen, or perhaps even aware of her. but both carmen and lara croft are strong female leads who live in shades of gray and make no apology for their respective choices or lines of work

also, both franchises started out with a globehopping narrative in every game, though (perhaps by coincidence) in both cases that was discarded in later games

so as it happens nancy drew is one of my other main areas of cultural expertise (fairy tales being the third), and like carmen she was obviously a groundbreaking female character. but in a completely different way.
