But the kid has passion, he knows what I'm doing and wants in. He wants it so bad, he's willing to take on more hours and less pay.

I don't know if it's fair to tell my friend... or I should keep it confidential because it's really the kid's choice in this case.

Either way, if this kid comes over to work with me, there will be repercussions.

Does the kid have a specific reason he wants to get on board with you?

Yeah, what I'm doing is more challenging. I can get him into Cannes, for example, working directly with film makers. Whereas if he stays where he is, he'll just be shooting business events and conferences.

Is Friend aware of Kid's desire for advancement? Not necessarily wanting to get on board with you, just that Kid is hungry for more?

 

[Chase]

Friend doesn't know kid wants more (than just money). Only knows that he needs kid to stay.

Event shots are small fry though. This kid is like a big fish in a small pond (not that he's cocky). But when he comes work for me, he'll be among 10 others who sometime work 12-hour shoots and stay up until 5 AM editing shots for clients.

My gut instinct so far is saying to take Kid on. The status quo may be comfortable, but I think it would ultimately do more harm than good.
