Spring break 2007. I was in my second year at the college I'd reluctantly transferred to after I had a mental breakdown and decided I could no longer slice it at the uni I'd dreamed of graduating from since I was 16. Through my connections at the American Institute of Physics, of which I was a member of the national leadership council (honestly I don't know where this low self-esteem comes from; I've been ranked highly in several national institutions since my teens). My friends, all of whom were members of the leadership council of SPS Zone 17, had nothing to do over aforementioned spring break. I suggested we go to San Francisco, since several members of our grad program were working at Stanford and I had other connections at UC Berkley, including my best friend of 5 years.))

Our department head got on board with the project, and the next thing I knew, 12 super-smart, super-horny college students were heading to the Bay Area for the best spring break of our lives. One of the places on our to-do list was Lick Observatory. One of the stories our amazing tour guide gave was regarding the man James Lick himself and the impact he made on the greater San Francisco area. He wrote a letter to his friend: "Hey, Ghiradelli.... they like chocolate here. You should look into this."))

Okay had to re-read, my first scan only picked up ‘horny’ and ‘Lick’ then I had to convince myself this wasn’t that sort of story.

Then came the part where we actually MET with the SPS chapter from UC Berkley. Priya, one of the members of our chapter, had gotten our group accustomed to the Hindi slang word "choda." While in a meeting with the Berkley chapter, one of the members of the NAU chapter let "choda" slip. A Berkley guy looked over at us and went "That is VULGAR! That is BEYOND PROFANE! Women should not use such language!" I am ashamed to admit that we laughed at that easily and often over the next 2 years.))

@Chase that actually happened. If there is one thing I've learned in life, it's that stories that are real are far more entertaining than stories I make up - provided they have the affirmation and assent of the other parties involved. Someday, when I am either a lot more sober or a lot more drunk, I shall have to tell you the story of when I shot a bear at my cabin.))
