( I find most are ok if you gently touch the antenna first, then with praying mantis bugs, I then pet their wings, and sometimes near the head. )

(I have some go into the praying pose after that, and some just relax, dragonflies on the other hand, tend to relax if I pet their wings.)

@Invader the mere fact that you can say "I pet wasps at work" sets you upon a pedestal of badassery few mortals can ever hope to achieve

We've got the variety of wasps that will swarm you immediately and 1. Hurt like #;!/!,!\!"!&!\$,$ 2. The wound will be swollen for days on end. So yes.

If one walks slowly and quietly they leave you alone but sticking your face an inch away from a nest is terrifying

I do not like wasps.

(It depends on the kind of wasp, spider, mud daubber, potter, and New gunea paper waps are all very mellow in temperament.)

Potter wasps in paticular are solitary, and very mellow. They dont even mind you being close to a nest.

 

[Invader]

(Social ones like yellow jackets tend to be on the more agressive side, and white faced hornets, are highly aggressive. )
