it's also done a lot to revive the franchise. frankly, if it hadn't been for the new series, the franchise would have died very shortly.

and based on my observations of hmh's promo material, their various wikipedia pages, and something my student was told at her internship interview, i believe control of the franchise was moved from the software department to the book and general licensing departments, which clearly have a far better grasp on reality / how not to heck up a good thing. which is an absolute delight after the software department's reign of terror, which only ran the franchise further into the ground.

(incidentally, her interview went extremely well, but they want someone 9-5, four days a week, which she obviously can't do since she's a full-time student! seems a bit ridiculous to have that as an "internship" imo, but hey, what do i know, i only work in higher ed. so moral of the story: she's not going to get to work on carmen and i won't have anyone i can get to ingratiate me with someone at hmh and/or get me freebies. sad reacts only.)

i mean, yeah. like, i really don't like the current tomb raider reboot, because even though they're good games/a good movie, it's not MY lara. but then, that's because they removed what i liked about original/first reboot lara, whereas cs2019 didn't take away most of what i loved about the franchise to date. so i'm more willing (and excited) to accept it.

by which i mean to say that although there are always going to be pros and cons to any reboot, to me neither the relative pros nor the relative cons of this particular reboot are especially strong. so i end up evaluating it on its own merits, and i like it. though i think it is rather vapid at times - all the fight sequences...

But if the show wanted to be judged on its own merits, it wouldn't be billed as a reboot.
