What was Joe's first day with Willie like? What did he do with him, where did they go? And also, what was his last day with Willie like? How did they say goodbye, or did they even get to?

His first day with Willy was Willy bringing him out of the orphanage and to a small restaurant for lunch.
Willy softened Joseph up with small magic tricks before they spent the afternoon asking each other questions and getting to know each other.

Joe's last day with Willy was Willy sending him off to go on his own adventure and find his identity as a person and a grifter/thief. Willy was uncharacteristically sentimental that day as he knew it was the last time they would see each other.
Willy died during the year Joseph was travelling.

Willy's last words to Joseph were ironically "I'm proud of you son. Go get'em"

It was only standing over Willy's grave that Joseph put the pieces together.

Willy's long-time friend and doctor was with him.
Willy left Joseph a letter to explain everything and when Joseph returned to find Willy, the doctor handed him the letter.
Joseph was really sad to see Willy dead and grieved like any normal person would.
He then resolved to keep Willy's wish for him to cheer up and 'keep the faith'.

What would Joe being doing if he wasn't a thief?

Given his penchant for acting and trickery, perhaps he might have ended up a travelling magician or involved in show business in some capacity.

His first choice would be Carmine - for for companionship.
If she doesn't count then maybe a ton of duct tape...that stuff is so useful

The cat is for companionship - someone to talk to and keep me sane. It's either that or a painted volleyball...

The most amazing thing I've learnt from both of them, is that they don't actually care about their own legacies; they just love the game and the art of thievery.

So for me, my focus is not so much trying to be them or live up to them, but rather just to be able to pass on the love of the game and the art of the heist to the next generation
