Happy Fathers Day

Some clam this day began in Virginia; but most say it began in Washington state in June 1909, when Sonora Smart Dodd convinced the minister of her local church, to hold a special service honoring her father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children as a singe father after their mother died. But, this day did not officially become a holiday until 1924, when President Calvin Coolidge signed a resolution "to establish more intimate relations between fathers and their children, and to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations." Since then, the third Sunday in June has been set aside to honor fathers in the United States.
