Chapter One:

On an unusually slow day at the East Texas branch of the Acme Detective Agency, the more artistically inclined agents had taken it upon themselves to decorate the small building for Valentine’s Day. The air smelled overwhelmingly sweet — as if a thousand roses had sacrificed their lives to line the walls.

When Vincent and Valentino Smyth walked into the building. Their senses were bombarded with the hopeless romantic atmosphere that exists merely in shoujo romance.

Vincent shook his head at the sight of his locker, Someone taped a Valentine’s Day card on it. His greyish-grey eyes narrowed at the sight of the magenta envelope. “So, who’s it from?” Val asked as he peeled it off the locker.

“Nobody important.” Vincent implied as he cautiously opened his locker. There was about fifteen or more other cards jammed in with his personal belongings.

“My brother is a womanizer,”. Val teased as he opened the valentine.

“Hey, it’s from Mallory O’Hara in IT.” Val chuckled at the thought of his brother dating the wallflower.

“Who?” Vincent replied as he shoved his camouflage backpack into the locker.

“Like you said, nobody who is important.” Val shrugged as he opened his locker. His face turned red as someone shoved a teddy bear in his locker.

“oh, you've been bamboozled too,”. Vincent joked as Val removed the 18-inch teddy bear. “I’m going to donate this to the fire station, You know a kid who lost their stuff needs this more.” Val whispered as he inspected it.

He moved the fuzz from the bear’s plastic safety eyes, before putting it back in the locker.

They moved onwards to their desks, but Val was thinking about someone as he walked quickly out of there.

Meanwhile, in the forensic science laboratory located in the basement, Rosemary Watson was trying to estimate the height and weight of the culprit based on the size of his footprint.

“I know, Director, you need these results pronto,” Rosemary explained into the Director’s video call. She mentally giggled at the captions.

“I’m working on clearing your accommodations for your service dog,” the Director said. “But I need to ask—who are you living with?”

Rosemary tilted her head like a puppy. She had been living alone without power, food, or water for months. If she had the chance, she would’ve slept in the lab, but she had a service dog in training that didn’t have public access rights yet.

“Still with my grandparents,” she mumbled.

“But they died months ago,” the Director frowned, wondering if he needed to call CPS to protect the fourteen-year-old agent.

“Yeah,” Rosemary gulped as she looked away.

popularized by a Twitter account in 2010. It is named after the misunderstood giant in the 2003 film Big Fish. Older or alternative terms used locally include simply "the fog" or sometimes "Big Mama", Seasonal Names: It is often associated with the terms "June Gloom" or "Fogust" due to its prevalence in the summer months.

Did you know....the horns on the viking's helmets are a myth? The popular image of the "horned Viking" can be traced back to the 1870s. Costume designer Carl Emil Doepler created horned helmets for Richard Wagner’s opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen to enhance the characters' theatrical presence. (I BELIEVE in the Where in Time game, they tell us this too....)
