Derringer is a New York native, and the second child of two NYPD officers. Her mother was killed in the line of duty when she was young, leaving her to be raised by her father. Being a mildly successful competitive shooter in his younger days, he began to train Derrin, and it was a way for them to both cope with the loss and bond.
Since her older brother Remington refused to go into law enforcement, her father transferred his wishes onto Derrin. She became an auxiliary officer during her high school years, and was expected to sit the NYPD exam right after graduation. At the last minute she decided against it, citing that she wanted some time to 'find herself' before making a commitment.
Although her father was disappointed, he hid his feelings, and allowed Derrin her space. She moved in with her brother who lived in Fresno, CA, and spent the next few months working several odd jobs. Eventually she decided that law enforcement would be the right fit after all, but had fallen in love with the state, the climate, and it's laid back nature. At the suggestion of a friend, she applied for ACME.
Personality
Derringer is a highly independent person. She is very easy to get along with, but at the end of the day prefers to keep people at arms length. She also is known to hide her true feelings underneath sarcasm or indifference, as she sees them as a sign of weakness. Very little shocks or impresses Derrin, so much so that others describe her as jaded. However, this attitude has also allowed her to have a very open mind, so she is not judgmental.
popularized by a Twitter account in 2010. It is named after the misunderstood giant in the 2003 film Big Fish. Older or alternative terms used locally include simply "the fog" or sometimes "Big Mama", Seasonal Names: It is often associated with the terms "June Gloom" or "Fogust" due to its prevalence in the summer months.
Did you know....the horns on the viking's helmets are a myth? The popular image of the "horned Viking" can be traced back to the 1870s. Costume designer Carl Emil Doepler created horned helmets for Richard Wagner’s opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen to enhance the characters' theatrical presence. (I BELIEVE in the Where in Time game, they tell us this too....)
