Ennai quietly took a seat on the bed of the small, sparse room, being careful not to disturb anything. She realized that Kristine was not the type to invite people into her space much, and she didn't want to upset whatever it was that had made her decide to trust her with this.

"Kristine?" Ennai asked gently looking at the glowing blue gold bracelet. She looked up, searching her face, "Your friends, how..." she chose her words carefully, "How did you meet?

 

[Invader]

"Well we met by accident on my travels, I fell on them." She replied. "Well they were desperate for a host, and thought I would make a compatible one."

With that the tapped the bracelet and it morphed into a butterfly shape.

"They sent me to another world, to sync with me, and I have been with them ever sense." Kristine spoke plainly. "I came to this world seeking someone, but hit a time vortex, I was sent to the wrong year." "In order to preserve the timeline here, I took someones place, looseing my memory and sending them into a deep sleep."

The butterfly proceeds to fly off and land near Ennai, fanning its wings at her.

 

[Ennai]

With that the tapped the bracelet and it morphed into a butterfly shape.

Ennai watched the crystals not realizing she wasn't breathing as it began to delicately flitter in the chilly room.

"In order to preserve the timeline here, I took someones place, looseing my memory and sending them into a deep sleep."

WHAT.

The butterfly came and landed on the bed post next to Ennai, and as lightheaded as she was feeling she was surprised the wings' fanning didn't blow her over.

The silence seemed to stretch on forever as the butterfly and Ennai looked at each other and Kristine sat expectantly.

"okay," she said, finally.

 

[Ennai]

"Kristine, this is not a question I would normally ask, but...where are you from???"

 

[Invader]

"Well I am their host, I thought they had died in the lab" She sighed. "You can pet them, they are a little warm but not hot to the touch."

Now she was getting very nervous around this person, and the sudden yell made made her jump.

"As to where I am from well, originally an alternative earth, I fell into another world, and found out the earth was destroyed." Kristine Mused. "So the world I fell into became my new home, I can travel between worlds, well I could at one point.

[Ennai]

Ennai tied her hair up absentmindedly and extended her finger for the glowing butterfly to climb onto. Aliens. The butterfly flew off her finger and landed on her shoulder its glow gently lighting her brown leather jacket. She looked back at the girl across from her. She needed time to process. Aliens mean alien tech, alien psychology. Kristine couldn't be the only one. Ennai pulled on the reins. She pulled herself back to who she saw in front of her. What she had picked up on Kristine in the first place and softened. She just wanted to make friends.

Her communicator went off again. It took her a second to notice. Dr. Nootix had found something else. He wanted her to come to his office tonight. Damn.

"An alternative earth? What does that mean? Another planet?" Did she lose the tech that let her travel so far? Ennai felt a pang at thinking of losing that kind of capability for all of mankind. She mentally chided herself for asking too many questions to quickly. The last thing Ennai wanted was to put pressure on Kristine. Ennai had thought she had a solid preliminary profile going, but this was...this made things difficult to gauge. "Does this have a name?" she asked, ignoring her own advice.

 

[Invader]

"Oh my home world is called ever dream, I long to return there, it is connected to every world I have visited. The crystals provide me the energy to open doors between worlds. " She replied.

Looking at the person before them, she noted that they seemed a little enchanted, and questioning.

"I can assure you my friends can only work for me, they are synced with me." Kristine replied. "They are a part of me and would die without me." "They cant harm or help you, I was afraid I had lost them for good, they were asleep for so long."

 

[Ennai]

Ennai paused. Everdream sounded like the name of a place from one of the scifi and fantasy novels she read as little kid. She was suggesting symbiosis, and perhaps shared sentience. And there was no device or technology. Just Kristine. Opening doors. She looked a little harder at Kristine, and then looked back at the butterfly. "So does it have a name?" she asked, a small smile touching her lips as the creature started to show off some of its personality through its flight pattern.

 

[Invader]

"I think they were once called, the givers of life, they have many a name." Kristine mused. "They are my constant companions, and fled their home world." "I found them by accident, and we have been together sense then."

Getting tired Kristine yawned, and then took half of the remaining cake and boxed it for Ennai. The butterfly duplicated itself, leaving a shell behind for her that was blue and green.

 

[Ennai]

"I'm really glad you shared this with me. That was a friend of mine messaging me. I have to go see him. We should hangout again though. Next time I'll bring the food," Ennai said wishing Kristine goodnight as she took the box of cake one hand and shoved her communicator in her jacket pocket with the other.

 

[Invader]

"I hope to see you again soon, you seem a wonderful person." Kristine Yawned putting the rest of the cake in the fridge. She then watched the other person leave, and then decided to sleep for the night.
